Presentation from Media Education Wales’ film-making projects in schools in areas of social deprivation in South Wales. These projects (with children aged 10-12) linked film-making to poetry writing, performance and music-making. How the projects are planned and structured; how non-mainstream film and abstract images are used to encourage the children to explore visual metaphor and the relationship between image and sound; and why imitating traditional film forms and industry practice are avoided when working with children and young people.
